When the winter weather sets in and it's too cold for them to play outside it's a nightmare keeping them occupied after the excitement of Christmas is gone. The best thing we've got is a dressing up chest we drag out whenever we have bored youngsters around. I've not came across a child yet that didn't love it.

All our family knows to hang on to that old hat or fashion mistake tucked away in the closet until they see us. They call and say "Do you want this for your box?" There's so many bad outfits in there the adults get entertained too seeing the kids in them. It's been kicking around forever and doesn't cost a thing more than we had already paid for the outfits. The secret is to not have it available to them day in day out and keep the chest as a special rainy day treat. A LOT cheaper than a trip to Chuck E Cheese!

Welcome to billeater.com, cheapncheerful! You brought back some memories there. My aunt used to have a dresser jam packed with dressing up clothes when I was small. My sisters and I and my cousins had a blast. She had one rule - we could wear what we wanted as long as we didn't fight and chose something different the next time. There was no hogging the good stuff to yourself that way LOL.

Good times. :)

Very good idea! Did you say fashion mistakes? I have a million of them in a range of sizes and could start my own dressing up chest with them. I'm an impulse buyer, one of those suckers that buys the feather boa no one else does for a craft project I never start. People like me keep retailers from going under by snatching up what others won't. :)

Trying to get kids away from the TV is awful! I don't know when was the last time I saw one reading a book that wasn't related to homework. Mine think I'm mean because I make them get wrapped up and go outside in the fresh air for a little while every day in winter but I bet that makes them healthier than a lot of other kids. They need fresh air in their lungs. Unless there's snow up to their armpits, they can stand it for fifteen minutes.

LOL, you guys are funny. Greenmachine, I never said I didn't have any of my own fashion faux pas in there either. ;)

Savannah, my dad constantly kicked us out and said it was character building to be out in the snow. Pneumonia building, yes but character building? I don't think so LOL. I'm exaggerating.
