Hello friends,,does anyone here Make Your Own products?
Here at my home I make our own laundry soap,,very cheap and does a great job on our clothes too,we also make our own candles,(easypeasy)
and Im looking into making our own BBQ sauce,,just have to figure out a good recipe.Hubby makes a salad dressing that is so garlicy,,it would make any your eyes pucker! But he loves it!
I want to hear more about the soap! I thought the lye made it difficult to make that. Does it not? I'd love to be more crafty. I just can't find a spare hour to do that kind of thing and would need to find cheap options too. Looking forward to hearing all about your crafts, Donna. :)
Our home made laundry soap is easy to make,I saw this on a utube video,,or ask,com maybe,,not sure though, its been awhile. We bought a box and Arm and Hammer washing soda,a box of borax and a bar of soap,I use Ivory,,its about 1.00 for 3 bars around here..the borax and Armand Hammer cost about 6.00 total.

Here is a site that has it also.We average out 1-2 cents per load. The soap will "gel" some after it sits a bit but after time it goes back and separates. It works well on our clothes,I was in cold only. But I do have some Spray and wash spot remover to help with stubborn stains.!box of Arma nd Hammer and Borax lasted hubby and I over a year.
Donna, that's interesting! How do you think it would be for sensitive skins? My husband just can't tolerate some of the liquid detergents I use at all and the clothes are all well rinsed.

Thanks for that link, Donna. :) Isn't borax caustic or am I confusing it with something else? It doesn't say anything about taking precautions like using gloves in the recipe.

Wow, you can't beat that kind of value for money. Thanks for sharing that. What do you store it in please, Donna? That recipe says it makes 10 gallons. It would take me a long time to go through enough laundry soap bottles to save up enough to reuse them. Now if we were talking about coffee containers, that would be easy LOL.
I think it makes 5 gallons,,the recipe shown on their site is just a tad different than mine,,but basically the same.If I can find the video I will post it also.I have mine in a 5 gallon bucket that has a lid.We did a double batch once but it was way to heavy to move around.I keep a little orange cup in the bucket also so it measures the same each load.Borax is also a cleanser for so many things,,they mention some on their box,we havent had any problems wth skin issues,,butwe never have has issues with sensitive skin too..sorry not much help on that.I never wear glove when making it,,hasnt been a problem at all,,both the powders are laundry boosters. The only problem,,if any ,is that the borax likes to 'clump' up ,,in the box,,but its easy to break it apart.
Found it!! This is the exact way I make ours.Whew,,thought I had lost it!

Hey I'm impressed with all your skills, Donna! I can manage to get the wrapper off a bar and only just. :) Where do you get borax? I wouldn't know where to start looking for that.
We've got a storm and it's interfering with my connection so I need to get off soon. I'll see the video another day.

I so want to try that now I've seen it done. :) Glad you found it, Donna! Thank you.
We found Borax in the laundry isle next to the Arm and Hammer washing soda. The main grocery store I go to is called Krogers. Its a chain here in Ohio, not sure how far out the go though. You might trying looking it up online,,find their website and they might be able to tell you where its sold in your area.

I was complaining to my friend about how much laundry detergent has jumped in price and was going to attempt this. The video's been removed it says.
Sorry about that,,taking that video off,,I haved gone back to it many times! What a shame! Theres a site from the Duggar family website that also has the measurements. Its posted on this post also..I treid to repost that site but for some reason its not letting me.Hope it works out for you.My grandsonis staying with us this weelend and he always makes more with me.He loves that grating of the soap for some reason!
These things happen, Donna. Sites get shuffled around.
Have fun with the grandson! I'd guess it has as much to do with him wanting to do stuff with his grandma as the grating. :)
Here is the recipe for the garliky garlic salad dressing,,sorry it took so long!
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup vinegar
5 cloves garlic
1 jar of pimentos,,drain these but dont rinse(jars are usually small)
1/2 cup sugar
Mix all the ingredients together,,use a garlic press and press the garlic into the mixture.Let marinate for atleast 45 minutes before serving,,longer is better also.We usually let this marinateover night for a planned party. When using,,we pour over 2 heads of chopped lettuce and serve. This is way too garlic for me but theres loads of our family and friends that just love it.

Very interested in the home-made BBQ sauce once you figure it out! Welcome aboard Donna.
