Thanks! I have family all over the world and pricing the cost of sending parcels is a headache. That will make it so much easier. Postage costs can be dreadful.
That's great, thank you Kay. I think the USPS service is going to go downhill the way they've been talking recently. I hope they don't go through with cutting a delivery day. It would be the thin end of the wedge. I guess they need to economize the same as all the others.

I don't see how they could. I have a friend that works in a rural post office and she said being rural, they distribute a lot of parcels for companies that promise next day delivery like Fedex, along with the normal mail run. The companies drop them off at the post office and the post office charges them a fee for each one. The USPS guy couldn't do that for them if the post office was closed the day the overnight company was to drop them off nor if the postman was off on delivery day.
They need to rethink that proposed new policy. That's only going to lead to more revenue lost on top of a poorer service.

You're right, Savannah. As usual it's the more outlying communities that are underserved. Those are the first ones to get trimmed down or reduced services - your overnight delivery one being an example where they can't be bothered finding the house - and they do it because it doesn't affect so many people. I would bet the USPS will do the same and ease it in to smaller communities first to prevent a big backlash from city folks. I don't think that's fair. They pay the same price for a stamp as anyone else does.
This thread reminds me of something that happened just yesterday. I had been thinking that one of my favorite tee shirts from Luckenbach, TX was getting a bit ragged. Upon looking at their web site I saw that the normally priced shirt (in black~exactly what I wanted) of $18.50 was on sale (online) for only $15. I filled out the mailing info and CC info, but at the end I noticed that it was going to cost $6.00 more for S&H. No deal. 40% S&H charge is too much.
I bailed on that one as I can drive my car to Luckenbach and back for about $6 in gas and get to sit under the huge oaks, listen to great local musicians that happen to stop by that day to play, and throw down a few Shiner Bocks to boot.
Of course, the beer cost would not be offset by anything. :-)

LOL, just call it a perk, micharch. Geesh, 40% S&H is ridiculous. I've changed my mind about clearance and sale items too when I saw the shipping costs. When they put them on sale they should adjust the shipping cost too, even if they have to increase the sale price to cover its real shipping cost..
For example, if they had made the tshirt $16.50 and the shipping $4.50, would you have bought it? I would have. You're still paying the same at the checkout and it doesn't feel so disproportionate.
I don't know much about the "shipping and handling" business, but it appears to me to be another level of expense. The "shipping" part is pretty-much set by FedEx or UPS or USPS, but it's the "handling" part that profit must be made.
For example if the S&H is $6 and the FedEx expense is $2, than the handling part is $4. (How much does it really cost to stuff a tee shirt into an envelope?)

Not $4, that's for sure! Handling has always been a con as far as I'm concerned. It's a rip-off.

I think it's ridiculous that they don't include handling in the item price anyway instead of adding it on at the end and giving us a fright. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see high handling charges. They would get more money out of me by not telling me that.

Kay, thank you for that link. The Shipping Sidekick one is perfect, being so easy to read with different colors for each company. I'm fond of anything that doesn't strain my eyes.
