Re: Flushing $$

Thank you Donna and billeater. I have a bottle of water in my cistern to keep the amount I need to make it flush as low as possible. Our water bill is inching up again. I can't win! Every time I start watching one bill like the electricity, another bites me.

LOL, that was an introduction I didn't expect from the presenter. Thanks Donna and thanks billeater for putting the video in a post.

Re: Flushing $$

We've got an old toilet at our place and I would like to replace that with a more efficient one.The toilets don't cost so much. I've seen them in the paper for under a hundred. What sort of price would a plumber charge to do it?

Thanks Donna! :) My problem is getting my crowd to flush and not walk away. I hate going into the bathroom and they haven't done that.

She didn't say what to do if the food coloring shows up and it turns out to be leaking? I think mine might be. I need to get some food coloring to check.

Thank you Donna and billeater! Nice to know we have the option of adding video to posts. That's cool. :)

I always used a half brick until one I had in there cracked and started flaking. I don't know why they say don't use them anymore. That advice has been given for years. As long as you keep it well clear on the mechanism and that doesn't flake like mine started doing, I think it would be okay.

You made me go and look in my cistern LOL. I put my brick in a ziploc bag and squeezed as much air out as possible before it went in the cistern. It looks fine. But I'll swop it out. Thanks for the tip.
No ideas on the cost of a plumber?

Estimates vary greenmachine depending on where you live. Costhelper gives a rough guideline.

Professional installation averages about $50 -$150 for a standard toilet, but can go higher for a complex installation or if parts or lines leading into the toilet have to be repaired or replaced. There may also be a charge for extra labor, such as hauling a heavy one-piece toilet upstairs.

Read the comments there. One FL consumer was charged double that. Always get a quote, not an estimate. The Sam’s Club Alexis model's a good buy at $100.

Re: Flushing $$

It's funny we're talking about this. This morning I noticed mine was wet around the bottom, and cleaned it up. It keeps coming back. I think there's a leak around the base. :(   I do NOT need a bill for replacing a toilet right now...
