By law you're allowed a free copy of your credit report annually but not everyone takes advantage of that. Here's a place you can request that:

Re: Get your free yearly credit report
I get a report from them (all three companies) each year and have had no need to take action as it all seems OK. But, I will not assume that my next one will be the same.
As a side comment, make sure that you do not use to link that is advertised on TV a hundred times a day (freecreditreport) as they charge a fee somehow. If you use Annualcreditreport, as linked above, you'll be OK.

Thanks for the tip, micharch. I've seen that ad a lot and it's one of those things I intended to do. I'm glad you told me before I got around to it! Thanks Kay for the thread. :)

Thanks for sharing that, micharch. I wouldn't have known that it made a difference using the TV one. There's always someone ready to wring your last buck out of you.

Mine seldom changes much but I still always get a copy. It's one of the first ways to catch identity theft because you'd see credit information/enquiries from companies you never dealt with. I should stop reading about identity theft. I'm becoming obsessive.
