I have these old fashioned beige painted kitchen cabinets that are well past their 'looking good' date. I can't afford to rip out the kitchen and replace them all right now. They look so boring! Any creative alternatives?

You could strip the paint off and see what's under the paint if you don't know. Wood cabinet doors could be hiding under that if it's an older property.

Stencils are pretty. With the cabinets being beige, that's a nice neutral color as a base. Why not see if you can find a design you like?

Some places such as Lowes have cabinet fronts,,just the doors you can buy  and give the whole new look to your kitchen,we painted ours all antigue white,,some of the cabinets were different fronts and no one knew the difference! We also got whimical and since my kitchen is done  with the Campbell soup kids theme in it,,they are alway holding a huge soup spoon,,my cabinet and drawer fronts have spoons as handles. We have had alot of compliments onit,,added so much. The spoons came from the dollar store for 2 for 1,00.Actual spoon shaped handles were 6.99 each at Lowes and we needed 23!

Love the drawer handles.  I assume somebody in the house is handy with welding though...to weld the risers on the spoons that the screws go into?  Or did you just epoxy them onto plain drawer handles?

No..no welding,,hubby bent the spoons over something in the garage(sorry I m at work right now and dont know what he used)but it was the same  thing each time so the spoons would have the same bend/look.The screwed a screw in the large part of the dpoon. We did find a flaw in our plan,,,the cabinets we use the most,,such as where the dishes are,,will move over time,,kinda come a little loose,,so hes going to place a small screw in the handle part also  on those cabinets.
Thanks for the compliment!

That is just too cool! What a fantastic idea, Donna. :) I was going to suggest new handles too. I had no clue they were that expensive to buy in Lowes! That shows how long it is since I did something like that. Very creative. :)

Donna, what kind of paint did you use to do that? Mine could benefit from a facelift as well. Was it the kitchen paint you would use on walls? The spoon handles are excellent.

We used a indoor off white paint, satin finish,,I had used a flat paint once on cabinets but just didnt clean well,,the satin finish worked best for us.

It looks great, Donna! I'd need an easy clean surface on mine. I'm always having to wipe down the cabinet doors where sticky fingers have been. Thanks for the details.

Replacing old vinyl with a new color then painting the cabinets to match would give your kitchen a coordinated look. I had this horrible slate gray vinyl on mine and it darkened the whole room down. It make a big difference when I replaced it with a cream toned one.

Is your stove electric pennywise? Getting shiny new silver reflector bowls for under the rings on the stove top makes the whole kitchen look better. Old ones lose their sheen eventually. You can get ceramic ones too now. The silver's cheaper.

Thank you for answering that Donna. I did a paint job before and after the first few times when I tried to clean them the paint came off along with the dirt. I was lazy and only did one coat. I probably should have done two at the least.

You can get those sticky pictures with the paper backing and add them to spice them up, pennywise. The word escapes me. Nice job on the cabinets, Donna!

I did that before and it really did improve everything in the kitchen. The ceramics are much more expensive. Don't make the mistake I did with the silver ones. I left them soaking in diluted bleach overnight to try clean them and it took off the dirt  AND the silver coating. That was why I had to buy a new set.

Thank you all for the ideas. :)  I'll combine them and do a fresh coat of paint, stencils or stickers and handles. The kitchen could do with new vinyl too. I'll wait until I get the cabinets done before choosing that to get the best match for them.

I will strongly suggest you Springfield Handyman because of the reason that they charge a very frugal price. This is really the best alternative to me, otherwise if you want to work it out yourself, then you can do some customisation as well.

That's only any use if you happen to live in Springfield. Please don't spam our board, adrians! It's very rude.
