And I don't want to have to pay nearly $300 again for a pair. My old ones are scratched and done. Any suggestions on where to go or how to do it differently? I went to a local small town optician last time.
Wow! That's what you call a saving, billeater.
My glasses are a disgrace. I only wear them for distance like watching TV or going to the movies and am very careless about leaving them lying around. I broke the nose piece things on them and can't wear them without them hurting. I'd never wear them in public. They badly need replaced and I'd heard you could get bargains online but I didn't know they were so good. Thanks!
Wouldn't your optician get annoyed if you went in for the eye test, got a prescription and then didn't buy the glasses from them? If I were the optician, I would be. Can they refuse you?
How often does your eyesight change anyway? I have a copy of my prescription from five years ago and don't feel I need stronger glasses. Could I use that to buy online or do you have to give them a current one? I'd like to avoid the cost of an eye test too. I'm not sure what the deal is on getting a prescription only, purplerain.

A little self serving, but...
Ways to Save Money on Eyeglasses
Zenni Optical, mentioned in the article, gets great reviews. You do still need to get your prescription updated by your eye doctor, but Zenni really does have single-vision glasses for $8. Even fully decked out glasses, with scratch protection, memory titanium, etc, are under $40.
