I find as it gets hotter the bread goes moldy much faster. Any tips on slowing that down? I throw out bucketloads in the summer.

My mom always kept hers in the fridge though I never have. She's adamant it makes the loaf stay fresh for a longer time. I prefer my bread at room temperature and to feed the birds when the loaf is past its best.

Do you find you're always halfway through a loaf when it goes moldy? If there's space in your freezer, split a loaf into two halves and freeze one half of it. Smaller portions means you have to throw it out less and bread defrosts in no time.

I keep mine in the spare room, not the kitchen, when it's hot. That's the coolest room in the house during summer. A few degrees difference gives you another extra few days out of the loaf. Put it in a cupboard too.

Just be careful not to let them get squished!
