We have a couple of CineMark movie theaters in our town. They show films that have run their course in the big expensive theaters ($8- a pop?) and before they go into DVDs.

Their normal cost is only $1.50 however, on Monday the cost for seniors is $1 all day and on Tuesday the cost far all customers is only $1. The rest of the time they have matinee pricing of $1 for the first showing of any of the films. They do not get all of the movies, but they get most of the good ones and during the week it is almost empty at the first showing (about noon). I often bring a lunch (inside of my jacket) and enjoy a long lunch and movie.

Re: At the Movies

Great pointer.  Cinemark theaters are nicer than a typical dollar movie place too.  There's a post in the tips section about movie discounts as well:

That's excellent. We don't have them micharch but I wish we did. The biggest expense for me was always all the snacks you buy on top of the ticket price. I never wanted nachos until I was inside a movie theater. Our local one used to watch you like a hawk to see if you were trying to bring anything in from outside to eat.
Thanks for the discount tickets list too, Billeater!

Cinemark's pricing is more realistic for most families anyway but you can't beat a dollar! By the time you all go to a $8 a head one plus all the munchies it's not a cheap day out.
I got hold of a link to their Theater location list. They also offer a weekly email that tells you what's on or coming soon.

You can watch movies free online at hulu. You just need to gather all the family around the computer instead of the TV. I got the link from a friend today and haven't checked it out much yet but there's also tv shows there.

Thanks for the link! My local library carries DVDs. The majority do now. Ours gets movies donated often which means it stays fresh. That's always another source of free entertainment! :)

This is a great list here. It's being updated too as news of more movie theaters offering deals over the summer comes in.
