When you snack it might not hurt you to keep these notions in your thinking and end the day a bit more healthy than when you started.

  • What makes a good snack? Foods containing a variety of nutrients such as vitamins, carbohydrates, fiber, and protein. Here are some examples of healthy snacks. Keep in mind that portion sizes vary based on your calorie and carbohydrate levels or goals:
    • Soy nuts and raisins
    • Graham crackers and low-fat peanut butter
    • Strawberries and cheese
    • Carrots or celery with fat-free dressing
    • Pears and low-fat cottage cheese
    • Apple slices and low-fat peanut butter

  • Sit down to enjoy your snack. Standing at the refrigerator or pantry allows you to lose track of how much you are truly eating. Check the food label, take the right amount for you, and enjoy your snack elsewhere.

  • Plan ahead. When hunger strikes, you're less likely to run to the vending machine for a candy bar if you bring healthy snacks with you. It's also a good idea to keep some nonperishable items at work or in the car for days when you haven't planned ahead.

Thirsty? Want a Soda? Have a big tall glass of ice water with a 1/2 slice of key lime instead. When your thirst is slaked, you'll never know the diff.

Thanks for the reminder, micharch. :) I tend to eat on the go while I'm working at my desk, which isn't good. Stepping away benefits you by breaking that cycle as well and giving your mind a rest for a few minutes. We forget to take a real break.

Thank you micharch. Good tips! I'm bad about munching out of boredom when I'm home alone. Don't misunderstand me, I LOVE getting the house all to myself every once in a while. I don't know what to do with myself when I do though LOL. Eating's too easy and I'll reach for the most convenient thing there is. I've never tried soy nuts, are they good do you know?

I am very bad at doing this. I'm also a human vacuum when it comes to leftovers. I hate anything to go to waste and would rather eat it than throw it out, even if I don't want it. Not good when it's more calories than my body needs! :(

I love fresh fruit and veg in summertime. Mainly because I don't have to cook then and I also lose some weight! :) The low-fat salad dressings by Kraft are very good. I buy them all the time and you don't notice the difference in taste.

frazzledmom, have you tried Kraft's Light Asian Toasted Sesame reduced fat dressing? That is delicious and a pleasant change from the usual ranch, thousand island, etc.
