It's a fact that 95% of all drivers change oil too frequently, according to a AAA survey that I read about recently. The 3,000 mile rule is a myth. Unless your car gets heavy usage like a taxis, most cars can wait 7,500 miles. If you fail to log 7500 miles annually, change it once a year, just for the heck of it.
You can save even more $ if you change it yourself. The bonus is you don't have to listen to the Jiffy Lube guy try to sell you extra services like changing the air filter for $20 when the part itself literally costs only $5. You can change your own oil and filter for about $10. Walmart will be glad to accept your old dirty oil at no cost. I have done it for many years and keep the records myself.
Who started the 3,000 mile myth? The car manufacturers no doubt with the backing of the garages. And why did it take so long for it to be made public that it's a myth? I've heard that number all my life. My dad used to harp on and on about that. Cars cost us enough to run without having to do any extras.
I got an oil change flyer in the mail, strangely enough. It said "do you get your oil changed ENOUGH?" in capital letters. I can say "yes, thanks" now I've read this - and too much LOL. Great tip, micharch. Thank you. :)

I wouldn't know how to do that and I don't want to learn LOL. When I need my car worked on, I get a male friend of mine to take it in. When they see a woman coming the dollar signs start flashing in their eyes. The only maintenance I do myself is air in the tires, gas in the tank, filling up on oil and water for the wipers.
When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a rose with the other.
