I caught a news article about a Iowa website that lists local places where kids can eat free and when. I don't live there but thought that was a good idea for us too.  If you know of or find anywhere that does offer free kids meals you could add the details onto this thread.

Kids eat free???  Wow!  That would be great!  There's a local restaurant in town that does that.  Come to think of it, I think James Coney Island does it on Wednesdays.

Backyard Burgers does it. With one adult combo meal you can claim a kid's meal free . It only works when you have the right ratio of kids to adults and starts at 4.

Chick-fil-A did the same deal a combo and a free kids meal on Tuesdays but I don't know if that's still available. I guess you could call ahead and ask.
Really it would be better to do that or at least ask before you sit down to make sure at all of the "kids eat free" places if there's no obvious signs up about it. I wouldn't want a nasty shock when the check arrived because the nights had been changed.

What a good thread! I'm racking my brain for one to add. When I take the kids in places that don't do that I get them an adult meal and split it between them now and then. Restaurants think all kids eat are chicken nuggets, burgers and fries but you can get a better adult meal for the price of two kids' meals.

Micharch, thank you for such a long list!  Savannah I've done the "half an adult meal each" too. I never do it without checking with the waitress first that it's not a problem and haven't had a refusal. Denny's is another place that does the free kids meals.

Good idea, frazzledmom! At the other end of the spectrum, many of the same kinds of restaurants do senior discounts as well. There's no harm in asking the staff when you're there when the discount nights/hours are and who they're for. You could save money by waiting an extra hour or going on another night.

Until March 20 for the price of a Pepsi you could get your child a free Roast Burger at Arby's with this printable coupon. One coupon per person per order. On second thoughts, wave the kid off to school and go treat yourself LOL.

Pizza Hut used to do the kids free on Tuesdays as well. That must be a slow night for diners.  It's still the same as far as I know.

Re: kids eat free- IHOP doing it seven nights a week

IHOP starting Monday is offering kids eat free seven nights a week!

IHOP's move, unprecedented by a national restaurant chain, is another signal of just how tough times are in the $566 billion restaurant industry. Restaurant operators have reported customer traffic declines for a staggering 22 consecutive months, the National Restaurant Association reports. Families are staying home: Visits from families with kids were down 5% for the year ended in June, NPD Group says.

•IHOP. The IHOP freebie is for families who dine in between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. through Sept. 13. "We've got a full-court press on for families with kids," says Carolyn O'Keefe, marketing chief. "Families are looking for value."

Re: Places kids can eat free

All we want is for other chains to follow IHOP's example. That's excellent news for families. Heck it could be cheaper to take the kids there than feed them at home! There's two more chains that are extending their kids eat free promotions too in the article.

•Fazoli's. The Italian chain with 251 locations has expanded its kids-eat-free deal beyond Tuesdays to include weekends through Aug. 30.
•El Torito. Since January, the West Coast Mexican chain has been offering free kids meals on Saturdays until 3 p.m. "The reason is the same as everyone else: to increase traffic," says Lowell Petrie, marketing chief for parent Real Mex Restaurants.

What an excellent find, Carly! Thanks very much. I don't think we've got a Lubys around these parts. What kind of place is that?
