It's always worth contacting your home insurance provider to see if they can reduce your premiums at all. Sometimes we forget when circumstances change - kids move out or we install an alarm for example - that our insurers may be willing to cut our payments. For the price of a phone call, you could save quite a few bucks!

I got mine in for the house insurance the day before yesterday and it's up $70! We only took it out a year ago and haven't had any claims. I'm mad! I wanted to call them but my husband said no, we'll just renew it because it's not worth the upheaval. He's an "anything for a quiet life" kind of guy. Men...

Greenmachine, that must be frustrating. I'd be on the phone like a shot. You could always get quotes online for comparison sake. Is it possible that showing him what you could save would change his mind? I wouldn't want you to do anything that would cause a row between you but that's a lot to just accept as the way it is.
(Check out the fancy new quote action I did there hehehe)
Does anyone know where you can compare insurance company quotes side by side online that's independent? I'm probably being too optimistic here. Does that exist? I want to fill in the form once and only once. I hate repeating all the information on dozens of sites.
I have my HO insurance with USAA. I generally review it annually in July. I have made a few adjustments to the coverage over time, but since it has an inflation adjustment feature I find that I do not have to tinker with it that much.
I used to compare rates the USAA has with other HO insurance companies since I was in that business for a while, but the rates that I am charged by USAA are always much lower than other company rates for simular HO coverage, even if I received a 10% commission. I don't check the rates any more.
After you compare HO insurance rates online, you still do not want to jump too fast. There are HO insurance scams out there and it is a very good idea to do a little research into the company before you buy. Make sure that they are actually paying out on their claims.
Too many people thought they have been well covered - when they were not covered at all. Also, realize that some insurance policies only cover you for certain events - the rest has to be covered as a rider.
You need to be comparing like with like as well. Company #1 could be costly but cover is old for new and company #2 could be less but will take into account the age of appliances or furnishings if you had a fire or flood. The cheapest choice could cost more in the long run.

I think when it's something you pay automatically month after month through the bank it never crosses your mind until the renewal notice comes in. Even then I spent years signing it and sending back the acceptance to them every time without querying it. After a friend told me she'd got hers reduced I followed it up and did get one.
