My husband says it costs more in electricity but I don't think so. I need to wash dark things that the dye runs in like black jeans and there's not enough pairs for a full load but does it really cost a lot more? I thought I was saving by doing a half load.
I have only one more idea. Do you have a creek nearby with some big rocks? :P
Pennywise, you better not repeat that within earshot of my husband or you'll be giving him ideas! LOL. We have a creek right across the road from us and if he makes me beat clothes against a rock you're off the Christmas card list. ;)

LOL, how I missed this I'll never know. Thanks a lot!! How about I just parcel them up and send them to your house? ;)
It must take less power to do a half load of laundry than a full one surely. It definitely saves you on water and laundry detergent. You can either keep doing them the way you are or throw them in the bath and wash them there. You'd only need the spin cycle then but what you save in electricity would probably cost you more in water to fill the bath twice, once to wash and once to rinse.
Apart from that creek remark, I agree with your logic LOL. Seriously, thanks. :) I need to find some report or something I can show him, or he'll not believe me. We've debated this for I don't know how long!
According to this eHow author, a half load costs just as much in energy as a full one. She doesn't say where she gets that information from unfortunately. The jury may still be out! :)

I have always heard that it takes the same amount of energy,(electric) to wash a 1/2 load as it does a full load, reason is that you still go through all the cycles as a full load, only difference is that you use less water.I try to was only full loads in cold,,but lately I have made some tye dye shirts,,and just not real sure on letting them wash with other clothes just yet!LOL

Donna, that is spooky! I was talking with my friend last weekend about tie dye. She used to have this tshirt that was like a rainbow and we got all nostalgic the more we talked LOL. I was close to pulling out and dusting off my incense sticks.
We didn't know how you get that effect. It would be great if you could explain how to do it. I would love to surprise her with one for old times' sake.
I bought a kit,,,and cant remember where,,,I shop Hobby Lobby,Joanns andMichaels crafts store..so it would be one of them.If you go to their sites and sign up for the sales ads to be sent to your email, they usually have coupons in them for 40% one item. The kit I bought was 9.99 originally. It came with 3 colors of dye ,3 mixing bottles and bunch of rubber bands,Also directions hwo to do all kinds of designs.I did one with just splatters all over ir and another that had a fade look to it,it strts our a reddish color at the shoulders and by the time it gets to the bottem of the shirt its almost a light light pink.So far thats my favorite.
Only thing about the kit is when you open up the dye and fill it in the bottles with water,,you have to use it all right then,,you cant save some for later,,but you can buy RIT dye in the store and use whatever you need and have more for later.I bought the kit because I wanted the directions for different designs.
Speaking of the craft stores newsletters,,this weeks came to me this morning for Joanns fabric and has 2-50% off and 1-40% coupon in it.I plan on buying some crafts for my grandkids with it(for Christmas gifts!)I like to take advantage of those savings!
Very cool, Donna and thanks for the newsletter tips. I haven't done that recently and need to start again. Speaking of coupons, don't miss the coupon codes thread. You might find even more there you like. :)
