Great news out from Sears. Their new program means they are willing to take on board your payments if you're made unemployed.

The Illinois-based retailer has announced it will modify payment agreements on new appliances purchased between July 6 and Aug. 1 if consumers are laid off -- as long as they spent at least $399 and put the items on a Citibank-issued Sears credit card.

One-twelfth of the purchase price will be credited to shoppers' accounts for every month they are unemployed. Those who are jobless more than a year will have the full debt forgiven. Sears officials said they might extend the offer if it proves popular.

I think that's a good reason to shop there. I like Sears anyway and have bought from them for years. I never had an ounce of trouble with anything. You can't do without major appliances and won't get one for much under that price when you buy brand new.

I agree, Sears have always been reliable. I've found they can be more expensive but would pay that extra for the peace of mind they are offering there. No one's job is secure anymore.

Sears are playing the odds that there will be enough of an increase in the number of appliances sold to compensate for any payments they'll need to honor. That's clever and makes them look real good too.
