How can this happen?  " A woman with $80,000 in the bank, a paid-off $311,000 home and a Mercedes qualified for $500 a month in food stamps after she lost her job." Changes adopted mean that savings and assets don't come into it in Ohio, only income.

I don't understand how she qualifies when she has so much disposable income. 80K!! That encourages folks to not work at all. Or to pack up and move to Ohio LOL. The program should be the same all over the country, seriously. Your zip code shouldn't matter. This is the official Food Stamp site.

The guidelines need to be reversed! What a slap in the face that is to all the genuinely needy that don't get it because they live in another state. You're right cookie, your zipcode shouldn't matter. Your bank balance should.
