Please don't put me in the stocks for even saying the word in July. When do you all start saving and shopping or thinking about gift buying?

Noooo, too soon, too SOON!!! Heck, can I pack away the fireworks first ?? :)
I'm just kidding, frazzledmom. It's never too soon to start. Just give me a day or two to not have to think about it yet LOL.

Frazzledmom, I promise I'll start thinking about it when I've ate all the leftovers from the celebrations.
Thanksgiving leftovers that is. :D

I'm making a list and checking it twice! :)

No sense in waiting around when there's bargains to be had with the seasonal sales. All the gardening equipment has started to come down in price and my parents love to garden.

Nice bargain there on the book Donna! Ten gifts each? No wonder you've already started LOL. Every year Christmas arrives all too fast for my pocket.

You did very well there! It's my favorite holiday too Donna. What I would like is a personal shopper I could hand money over to and let them get on with it. I enjoy the wrapping part more than the shopping part.  Where do you think the best craft shop buys can be found?

Hobby Lobby is excellent. It's being in the right place at the right time to get the clearance stuff that's hard there. It's every bargain hunter for themselves when that stuff goes out LOL. I've got some nice plant holders from them.

It's a good time to sign up for the newsletters that you haven't yet of stores you use. The Christmas specials will be on those and any coupons or coupon announcements.
The earlier you start, the more you enjoy the season. I like making presents and giving myself the time to enjoy doing that and not feeling pushed for time.

Re: Time to think of Christmas

I could never afford Christmas if I didn't start watching for bargains from August onwards. The July pay is the first that has money set aside for presents. I want all mine in by December 1. After that food is all I have to think about.

How about putting away a certain amount of your income every month or paycheck and letting it build up 'til Christmas?

My sister does that Carly. Frankly I never think of it until about September LOL. It's a good idea though and one to get in the habit of. Do you do that yourself? I would have trouble keeping my paws off it.

Re: Time to think of Christmas

I tried it last year by putting away a simple fifty per month, even 10 dollars would add up, and its easy to keep your hands off that.

How did you put it away Carly? Did you keep it in another account or stick it in a piggy bank at home? Ten dollars wouldn't be missed by me and that extra hundred at Christmas would be welcome.  Fifty a month I couldn't do.

Either you're on a different calendar to the rest of us or are talking about Christmas 2010 Zoey. Ten dollars a months doesn't make a hundred before Christmas if you're starting now LOL. ;)

LOL, I was thinking about next year and giving myself two months grace when I could skip it. What you didn't read my mind and know that? :)

I left my crystal ball at home. :) So to get back on topic, has anybody found good bargains or deals yet? Those Christmas discounts should be starting to show up in the press. With the economy being so bad I think retailers will start advertising sooner and with better deals to grab what business they can from the competition.

You're right, Savannah. I got a flyer in from JC Penney with free shipping on it for online orders of $49 or more through Aug 20. I get flyers from them all the time and that's the first one I've seen with that mentioned.

Remember to read the small print for exceptions as well under the ad. For example clearance items aren't included in that. That's my favorite part of any store! :)

I look there before I look anywhere Savannah.  Thank you for that link Zoey. I'm waiting until the very last day to look. Often stock gets slashed in price at the end of special deals.

Welcome aboard Tracie! That's wonderful how you've taught them so well at a young age. I'm impressed. Any of you started buying yet?
