My neighbor was telling me he's applying for this. His friend is getting replacement windows, his furnace upgraded and all kinds of draughtproofing done on his house for free. Apparently it's a new energy efficiency program from the government (DOE maybe?) to upgrade old properties. My neighbor thinks anyone can apply. Ever heard of it?

Is this what you're looking for, cookiefan? It's from the Dept of Energy.

2009 Recovery Act and Weatherization Funding
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program will distribute $5 billion to the states under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. A chart that shows funding to individual states and U.S. territories appears below.

This page has all kinds of information.

Good to know that's available! I'll sit down later and read that all through properly. In fact, I'll probably wait until I capture hubby to do the home energy audit and we can go through that at the same time. We need to do plenty to this old house.

Wow! That's good news for anybody in an older home that fits the bill. It's awful how many go through winter freezing to death.
