I'm wondering if any of you go the whole hog and bedeck the whole house or if you like a more minimalist look. I would also like to hear of any frugal decorative ideas because ours vanished when we moved house and they got lost in the shuffle. It's expensive to begin again when you've lost much of what you accumulated for years and buy it all at once. I don't even have a Christmas candle or anything!
You can get some nice tablecloths at Walmart with Christmas designs and matching placemats. That will brighten a corner. :) Are you going to get a tree or not bother?
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person that flinches at the price of decorations. I was looking at a tree topper and it was $12 for an angel! We'll be making our own tree topper. Somehow LOL. I know this : it won't cost me $12 in materials.

This is a pretty treetopper. You need to look at the PDF to see it full size. If all else fails with the crafting, you can keep that idea in reserve for the last minute. All for the price of printing it. :)
I like the vintage look that treetopper has, Zoey. If you were to print it on glossy paper I think that would come out looking really nice. The lights would catch the sheen.

And the house insurance in case the lights set it on fire LOL. Just kidding. Thanks Zoey, it is very pretty. :)
I don't think lights can set paper decorations on fire that easy, can they? Anyway, I remembered I had an angel dough ornament so that's topping the tree. :) Thank you anyway Zoey.

My son ended up buying me a prelit tree as a surprise. What a sweetie he is. :) That's made the whole place feel more festive. All I need now really is table decorations as suggested. Thank you for all the ideas!

Awww that was sweet of him. No wrestling with the lights either. Why is it that every year when you put them away they work perfectly, you don't touch or even look at them for 11 months, and they come out the box not working right the next year?!

Because somebody trampled on the box when they were busy taking down other decorations and didn't know the lights were already in there.
Errrr I mean...that's one possible explanation, that has never occured in my vicinity. Never ever.
(Looks around nervously to see if Santa's listening.)

Get outside and gather up pine cones if you have a tree nearby. You can make a nice centerpiece with them, candles and fireproof tinsel or baubles. See if you can score some holly as well if you don't have your own holly bush. The plastic stuff is alright but real is nicer. Wash it all and check it's bug free before use. Rustic is in this holiday season.
