Lower your electric bill ... don't overuse your pool pump

Many people tend to overuse their pool pump. A typical 2hp pool pump uses 2000+ watts ! At 8 hours a day, that would be 477kW Hours, or roughly $50 at national average rates.

Deal with lights that get left on all the time

Start saving money now with this tip. I found that there were a few specific lights, like the outdoor spotlights by the garage, that would get left on by accident all the time.

There are cheap photo sensors that you can screw in the socket that at least keep them off during the day if they are accidentally left on.

Or, even better, replace the wall switch with a timer like the kind you see on hot tubs in public areas like hotels.



Keep hot appliances away from the thermostat

Don't put appliances that generate heat, like lamps and TV sets, under your wall-mounted cooling thermostat. The heat rising from them can cause the thermostat to read a temperature that's higher than the actual room temperature and lead to overcooling the whole house...Read the rest...

First, if you need a new appliance, try to purchase during the month of May. Retail stores tend to discount appliances for Mother's day and Memorial day. Also, many states offer a "tax holiday" during this time.
