The American Association of Retired Persons, or AARP, offers pretty unique discounts for those of you that have retired. AARP discounts include everything from 40 percent off at outlet stores, homeowners insurance, cruises, 10 percent off at borders books, etc. Membership in AARP is $8 a year if you sign up for 5 years, so it's not a huge cost. See their discounts at the AARP website.

Re: retired ? take advantage of discounts from AARP
I concur that AARP is a great source of discounts, but don't overlook other sources you may be eligible to use. For example, I am eligible for discounts based upon retired military status, AAA auto club gives discounts on hotels, flights, dining, etc, and membership in other organizations such as veterans clubs, NRA, your local bank, credit union, as well. Check all possibilities, then compare who has the best for a given need. Most hotels have a rate for seniors just because I am over 55. You may be surprised how many discounts you are eligibile to receive.
