While computers are great pieces of technology to have, they can be expensive to purchase. By looking in the right places or catching great after-holiday sales, you can find an affordable computer without too much trouble. When your family needs a computer for school or work, and your budget is fixed, it can be hard trying to figure out how to come up with the funding for one. There are ways to get the computer that you need without spending a lot of money. You just have to know where and when to shop, to get the deal(s) that you are looking for.
First, check with schools or colleges. Schools often throw out or give away old computer systems when they are upgrading. You can usually get one of these computers for very little or for free. Schools also have auctions where they sell their computer systems at affordable prices as well.
Next, be sure to check after Christmas sales or black Friday events (the busiest shopping day after Thanksgiving). While the crowds can be fierce, you often kind find door buster deals on the electronics that you are looking for. Sticker prices are often 50% off the original retail price.
During the summer and early fall months, browse garage sales and thrift shops. Every now and then somebody is going to sell a used computer. Read the newspapers to check garage sales that may be selling computers. Garage sales also may sell computer software or even games for your children too.

Re: Tips on Buying a Computer on a Budget...
For myself, I have found the best deals, with a guarantee that the computer functions properly is to use UBid or Overstock.com auctions. I just purchased a factory refurbished desktop with 90 day guarantee for 125 dollars plus shipping. It is cheaper to buy one than to have it fixed with the labor rates charged today.
