Use one of the new motion sensors on light switches and they will automatically come on as you enter the room, and turn off when you leave.

By automatically turning off the lights when nobody is in the room, manufacturers claim that an average of 128 hours of uneeded lighting is avoided reducing electricity consumption by 10%.
